Week 3: Assignment 2

The Common Core Tool kit is a great resource to help guide teachers on how to follow the common core standards in their classrooms and implement it. One way that a teacher can assess a classroom of students when they are all on different reading levels is by doing individual assessments such as running records. This way the teacher can focus on each student's individual reading level and try and help them gain more skills necessary. Teachers can also do informal assessments to help her get a clearer idea as to what level the majority of the class is on.

  1. Sometimes it's difficult to conduct formal assessments and running records if the student does not receive services outside of the classroom. Bench marking is very time consuming and if there isn't sub coverage, is almost impossible. Working in small reading groups is a great way to informally assess students.
